Doctor Who: Prisoners of Time #10
Scott Tipton, David Tipton and Elena Casagrande’s work on “Doctor Who: Prisoners of Time” #10 in many ways sums up all of the plusses and minuses when it comes to this 12-issue mini-series. There’s a great basic idea behind it, but large parts of it by this point still aren’t working, even as there’s always at least a small touch or two that makes fans think that somehow it might all come together. Part of the problem is the story structure itself. As main villain Adam (finally revealed last issue) continues to steal companions of the Doctor, it feels like there’s no overall advancing of the plot. That’s clearly not going to happen until the final issue, which makes one think that in doing so, the series will end up with a rather rushed conclusion. More importantly, it makes the familiar plot structure of “Doctor and companion(s) go on a short romp, concluded by a snatch-and-grab by Adam that comes out of nowhere” feel incredibly tired and uninteresting. It’s too bad that the Tiptons

Star Wars: Legacy – Prisoner of the Floating World #5
Under the chaos of foiling the machinations of the Sith Lord, writers Corinna Bechko and Gabriel Hardman guide Ania Solo with her band of misfits in “Star Wars: Legacy” #5 to slide the story from world-building to world-ending with high stakes and explosive action sequences. The issue opens aboard the controversial communications array following the cliffhanger ending from the previous issue. That array is firmly in the grasp of the Sith Lord, who uses it to broadcast a message of terror and hopelessness. The ragtag band assembled around Ania Solo includes Imperial Knight Jao Assam, assassin droid AG-37 and Sauk, the Mon Calamari analog for this Solo’s Chewbacca. Granted, Sauk is nowhere near as imposing as a Wookie, but he is no less loyal to his friend. The writing duo has done a nice job imparting Sauk and AG-37 with personality to counter the predictably resistant personality of Ania Solo. To that end, Ania is given a history lesson from AG-37, who tries to straighten the young

Doctor Who: Prisoners of Time #4
The concept behind the “Doctor Who: Prisoners of Time” mini-series — each issue focusing on a different Doctor and set of companions, which will eventually lead into a big climax for issue #12 — is a fun one, and Scott and David Tipton deserve credit for that idea. But four issues into the series, there’s a strong sameness in each installment, and with that a certain level of unevenness. The visuals courtesy of Gary Erskine (with help from Mike Collins) are definitely not the problem. Erskine’s able to keep his own art style without also losing the familiar looks of Tom Baker and Louise Jameson playing the 4th Doctor and Leela. Erskine goes back to the well of Baker’s toothy grin a great deal, but to his credit it doesn’t ever come across as stiff or posed. He and Leela both come across animated and entertaining to watch, and their expressions are by far the best part of their depiction. They do occasionally come across a bit oddly, though; Leela leaping into the Judoon ship looks j

Star Wars: Legacy – Prisoner of the Floating World #1
In a story set approximately 138 years after “Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope,” Corinna Bechko and Gabriel Hardman add more depth to the legacies established over three and half decades ago in our time. Thirteen decades of conflict, resolution and more conflict have left the galaxy a scattered collection of patchwork societies and races with beings scattered far and wide from the homeworlds and forced to serve outside their talents or interests. The galaxy is attempting to find solace and reunion through a triumvirate governing body comprised of the Jedi Council, Imperial Court and Galactic Alliance. As rumors swirl and speculation mounts regarding the next installment of the film division of this franchise, the future, quite literally, is here. While we don’t get the focus character’s full name until the second-to-last page, solicitations, interviews and even the “Legacy” title have clued readers in to the lineage in place. Ania Solo begins “Star Wars: Legacy – Prisoner of the F
