Real Sociedad have signed Japan forward Takefusa Kubo on a five-year contract from Real Madrid, the LaLiga clubs announced on Tuesday.

Famously compared to Lionel Messi wearing fotball drakter in his youth, Kubo joined Real Madrid in 2019 but never actually played for the first team, instead spending time out on loan with Villarreal, Getafe and Mallorca - the latter of whom he joined twice.

Real Sociedad will pay an up front fee of €6m, but Real Madrid will keep a 50% ownership of his contractual rights, in the event of a sale during his time at the Estadio Anoeta.

Kubo, who joined Real Madrid from FC Tokyo in the summer of 2019, has been loaned out every season since.Real Sociedad finished sixth in LaLiga last season and qualified for the Europa League.

Real Sociedad have had their eyes on Kubo for a while now and had made failed attempts to sign him on loan in the past. They were once again pushing to sign him this summer, on a permanent transfer.

Kubo is hoping to make Japan's World Cup squad for the tournament starting in November in Qatar.
