Bendis Moves Jinxworld to DC, Plans Curated Imprint

In addition to his three Superman projects, DC Comics’ announced this morning that Brian Michael Bendis’ multiyear, “multifaceted” deal also brings the launch of a curated custom imprint, and the return of the writer’s Jinxworld titles — including the continuation of Powers, Scarlet and The United States of Murder Inc.

Bendis signaled the Jinxworld move in November, a week after the surprise news that he would leave Marvel Comics after nearly 18 years to become DC-exclusive, but Forbes now makes it official. The Jinxworld library is home to Bendis’ creator-owned work, from early solo comics like Jinx, A.K.A. Goldfish, Fire and Fortune & Glory, as well as collaborations like Powers and The United States of Murder Inc. (both with Michael Avon Oeming), and Scarlet (with Alex Maleev).

“The big headline here is this isn’t just DC grabbing some of my books and giving me a safe place,” Bendis told the website. “They came and offered me a genuine partnership. They’ve offered creator-owned books before, but what they’re doing here is something brand new for them and for comics. Hopefully it’s a sign of things to come in the future.”

The publisher intends to release the Jinxworld library, both digitally and in print, and debut new material from Bendis and his collaborators.

In addition, the writer will curate a new custom imprint, which he compared to Gerard Way’s current Young Animals line. “It’s going to be a select series of special comics, and we’ll debut what those are later in the year,” Bendis explained. “I’ll be writing some of those and curating the others, but they’ll all be under this imprint and add a very special flavor to the DC Universe. I’m happy to say it will star some of my all-time favorite DC characters in unique situations, and that I could not be more excited for.”
