Iron Man Mark 1 Armor Concept Art is Insanely Detailed

The Iron Man Mark I — the first ever version of the Iron Man suit — has found new life on social media. Artist Ryan Meinerding posted Iron Man concept art for the Mark 1 suit on his Instagram page to honor the character’s co-creator Jack Kirby on his 100th birthday. The artwork shows just how much time and effort went into creating a realistic (and Tony Stark-approved) design for the film.

In keeping with my Mark I/Kirby post here is the back view of my Mark I design. It's fun trying to figure out how things could work and looking for and finding inspiration in a variety of places. I actually studied Industrial Design at Notre Dame before heading west to California for art school so I'm sure my days there came in handy for these early MCU designs. And of course I also had awesome guidance in the form of @adigranov who already had history with the character and @philjdsaunders who came from a car design background. I was in very good company. Those early days working for @jonfavreau on Iron Man are still some of my fondest memories. #dreamteam #ironman #conceptart #adigranov #philsaunders #markI #marvel #marvelstudios #conceptart #conceptdesign #jackkirby100 #jackkirby #marvelcinematicuniverse

According to Meinerding, his early days in technical studies helped him out with his concept.”I actually studied Industrial Design at Notre Dame before heading west to California for art school so I’m sure my days there came in handy for these early MCU designs,” he wrote on the post. He added that he had help from designers and illustrators Adi Granov and Phil Saunders, the latter of which has past experience with car design.

“Those early days working for [Iron Man director/executive producer Jon Favreau] on Iron Man are still some of my fondest memories,” he wrote.

Since then, Iron Man has come a long way. The latest iteration of the Iron Man suit can be seen in Avengers: Infinity War, which hits theaters on May 4, 2018.
