News ONE's Mob Psycho 100 Manga Gets Live-Action Drama in January
Netflix collaborates on drama starring Tatsuomi Hamada as Mob

TV Tokyo announced on Tuesday that ONE's Mob Psycho 100 manga is inspiring a live-action drama adaptation that will premiere in January. TV Tokyo is producing the series in collaboration with Netflix. Tatsuomi Hamada (seen left below) will star in the series as the main character Mob.

TV Tokyo will air the series in its "MokuDora 25" time slot, which airs on 1:00-1:30 a.m. every Thursday (effectively Friday morning).

Kōichi Sakamoto, who is also working with Hamada on Ultraman Geed, is directing the show. Fuminori Kobayashi is serving as producer.

Anime studio BONES, who worked on the manga's previous television anime adaptation, teased last week that the manga's 15th compiled book volume (seen right) will have new information when it ships on Thursday.

The original manga creator ONE (One-Punch Man) launched the Mob Psycho 100 series on Ura Sunday in 2012 and later in Shogakukan's MangaOne app in 2014. Shogakukan published the manga's 14th compiled book volume on April 19.

The anime adaptation of ONE's original manga premiered in Japan in July 2016 and Crunchyroll streamed the series with English subtitles as it aired in Japan. Funimation streamed an English dub for the anime last December.

Funimation describes the story:

Kageyama Shigeo (a.k.a. Mob) is an 8th grader with powerful psychic abilities. Workingunder his not-so-capable master, Reigen, Mob uses his powers to exorcise evil spirits. But his will to be normal causes him to suppress his powers and feelings until he hits 100 percent — a point where his pent-up emotions are unleased and a darker power takes over.
