Gary Frank has tweeted out an image of his Doomsday Clock #5 variant cover that features one (of three) of DC Comics’ Jokers featured prominently, putting on some makeup.

So far, we don’t know how the Clown Prince of Crime fits into the narrative of DC’s upcoming DCU/Watchmen crossover, but we suspect he’ll be crossing paths with at least one of Alan Moore/Dave Gibbons’ creations at some point.

Earlier this year, scribe Geoff Johns explained the decision to introduce some of Watchmen’s characters into the DCU. “Thematically, and metaphorically, there was no better choice than to use Doctor Manhattan. If you’re going to have a conflict between optimism and pessimism, a battle between the very forces of hope and despair, you need to have someone who personifies the cynicism that has leaked into our hearts and also has the ability to affect the entire DCU. It’s all paying off this November with Doomsday Clock.”

Featuring characters like Superman, Batman and Lex Luthor, DC’s upcoming Watchmen crossover, written by Geoff Johns and drawn by Gary Frank, has its first issue out November 22, though fans willing to stay up late can purchase it from participating stores at 11:57 PM on Nov. 21; issue #2 will arrive in late December. Issue #5, which has yet to be solicited, is suspected to hit stands sometime in March 2018.
