‘Tokyo Ghoul' Beats ‘Naruto' For Complete Manga Prize

Oh My Goddess!, which has the distinction of being America's longest-running manga, ended its Japanese run after over 25 years.

Then, there was something about a ninja, one of the most popular manga in last decade, Naruto, met its ending.

However, Naruto didn't win the complete manga prize of 2014.

According to a new fan poll from Japanese news service Gadget Tsushin, Japanese manga readers have chosen "Tokyo Ghoul" by Sui Ishida as the manga worthy of the "Complete Manga Prize of 2014."

Following "Tokyo Ghoul" was "Naruto," "81 Diver," and several other manga series that were completed this year. Mangas like The World God Only Knows, Rosario+Vampire, A Silent Voice, Claymore and Kuroko’s Basketball that ended this year are not part of the Top.

Most fans who saw the news were shocked to see that "Naruto" did not secure first place ahead of "Tokyo Ghoul."

To clear up any confusion, the only manga series eligible to be included in the poll were series that were completed in 2014.

Other notable manga series that made the top 10 on the list are "Oh! My Goddess," which has the distinction of being America's longest-running manga, ended its Japanese run after over 25 years, and "Abusan" that has been serialized since 1973. "Abusan" is actually the oldest manga series to be included in the list.

"In modern day Tokyo, society lives in fear of Ghouls: mysterious creatures who look exactly like humans -- yet hunger insatiably for their flesh. None of this matters to Ken Kaneki, a bookish and ordinary young man, until a dark and violent encounter turns him into the first ever Ghoul-human half breed.

Trapped between two worlds, Ken must survive the violent conflicts of warring Ghoul factions, while attempting to learn more about Ghoul society, his newfound powers, and the fine line between man and monster."
