Top 10 Best Star Wars Character Cosplay Ever

Pretty much,  the only western cosplay tradition that can compete on a level with the superhero is the characters from Star Warss.

Star Wars cosplayers now incorporate some of the most up-to-date make-up and prosthetics, when needed, in order to raise their game to the level of the films that inspire them.

Here are 10 best cosplays of star wars characters ever.

10. Varied Aliens

As the world’s most famous space opera, Star Wars boasts its fair share of alien flora and fauna.

The Expanded Universe of books, comics and especially video games has increased the number of alien protagonists and antagonists for fans to cosplay, given that the films tend to stick to human-form goodies.

..and the Sith Lady Darth Talon in the expanded universe.

But of course, there are the less sexy exotics from the films – like the Ewoks and the Wookies…

…and everyone’s favourite Tatooine-based scroungers and scavengers, the Jawas.

9. Padmé Baby One More Time

Former princess, then queen of Naboo, then galactic senator, secret wife to a Sith Lord, and finally mother to two future Rebel heroes… Padmé Amidala has a lot of plot to juggle in the three Star Wars prequels.

It’s her exotic headdresses and make up that make her fun to cosplay, though.

There are alternate looks littered throughout the films, so it really depends on personal preference…

8. A Bag Of Mint Imperials

Star Wars doesn’t just give us iconic villains to cosplay as, but also pretty sweet soldiers and men/women in uniform.

Imperial Stormtroopers may be the worst shots in all the galaxy, but their armour is so iconic.

Here’s a few specialist soldiers to vary the palate a little.

Our favourites for sheer spectacle have to be the Imperial guardsmen…

And there are plenty of people with the imagination to try something a little different…

7. Han Never Flys Solo

We’d very much like to know why no one seems to want to cosplay Luke Skywalker.

He’s got a couple of iconic looks in the films, that gi he wears for most of Star Wars, and the devastatingly cool all black number he’s rocking in Return Of The Jedi.

Why does no one wanna be Skywalker?

Actually, there aren’t that many male Han Solos that we can see…. but there are a significant number of female versions.

We think that female ‘Chewbacca’ might just be kidding herself – she looks like she’s about to audition for the next Flintstones film.

This next guy, on the other hand, has not only partnered with the lesser-spotted Luke Cosplayer, but has also chosen to cannily blend Harrison Ford’s two most iconic movie roles in his costume:

6. The Other Skywalker Kid

For as long as Star Wars fans have been cosplaying Star Wars characters, one Leia Organa has been the most popular.

Leia’s not your typical damsel in distress, though: she’s handy with a blaster, utterly fearless, and short-tempered with a caustic, dry sense of humour.

She’s also an actual senator, too – the youngest ever in the Galactic Senate, reaching that position at the age of eighteen, while secretly also being one of the pillars of the Rebellion.

5. The Road To Mandalore

Somehow, blink-and-you’ll-miss-them cameos in The Empire Strikes Back and Return Of The Jedi have conspired to make Boba Fett, ‘bounty hunter’  and retconned badass into one of the central characters in the Star Wars mythology.

4. The Ghost Of Vader Past, Present And Future

Lucas may have retconned the story of Star Wars to be the story of one man’s rise, fall and redemption.

It certainly didn’t read that way before the prequels – but, like it or not, Anakin Skywalker and Darth Vader represent the spine of all six movies.

Most of the Darth Vader you’ll see portrayed at conventions is the conventional Dark Lord, which is exactly as you’d expect: it’s the iconic version, after all, giant helmet and all.

Surprisingly though, there’s more than a few of Anakin as the Sith he became before that climactic fight with Obi-Wan Kenobi that fragged half his body.

And you’ll even see Anakin the way Sebastian Shaw portrayed him, skin fish-ugly from two decades under that helmet and mask, scarred and blasted.

3. Chewbacca

Chewbacca, loyal sidekick to smuggler-turned-Rebel Han Solo, isn’t much more than a big hunk of dog hair in the Holy Trilogy.

But it didn’t really matter to young fans of Star Wars, Empire Strikes Back and Return Of The Jedi.

Now, quite why anyone would want to painstakingly, lovingly put together a huge cross between a gorilla suit and a King Charles spaniel, keep it combed  and then proceed to actually wear it for several hours at a time…

As it is, he has to make do with photo ops with desert Stormtroopers and, as above, a Gammorean Guard.

The Gammorean Guards! Remember them?

2. Darth Maul

There’s a good case to be made that Ray Park’s Darth Maul is the only really good thing about the three prequel movies.

Plenty of diehard Star Wars fans would agree, and probably an equal number would disagree – that’s the joy of fandom.

But Darth Maul certainly struck a chord with fans in his single appearance in the franchise in The Phantom Menace.

He looks like the Devil himself, all blackened fangs, horns and red and black etched, skull-like face, clad in trad Sith black.

That’s Park’s athleticism and gritted scowl, and that lightsabre fight between Maul and the Jedi interlopers Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi.

1. Enslaved Leia

The lady is badass… it’s not her fault she’s caught, Jabba being a paranoid slug, and forced into the role of chained slave girl, after Jabba feeds the last one to his pet Rancor.

It’s not like Star Wars has that many strong, fully realised female characters that fans can afford to reduce the best one in the franchise down to some form of submissive slave girl figure.

As you can see, today there are just too many Leias in gold bikinis to argue with.

Too. Many. Leias.
