Have you been fed up with the endless waves of mediocre high school comedies in the anime industry?

Fear not! Here's 10 anime from the recent years that helped us restore our faith in the medium, and hopefully will do it to yours as well!

1. GoSick (2012)

Yeah there's a Goth Loli female lead, but don't let looks fool you. This is a fun mystery anime that rapidly turns into much much more.

You'll soon grow to love each character as they are introduced, and grow to love the relationships between them even more.

2. Kids on the Slope (2012)

Charming coming of age story set in the age of Bebop (the music genre, not the anime!) revolving around two boys who learn to really put their soul into their music.

Must watch if you are a jazz fan.

3. The Devil is a Part Timer (2013)

What happens when the Devil is reduced to working part time at a fast food joint to make ends meet?

A great, heart-warming comedy, with just a little bit of everything else thrown in.

4. Hyouka (2012)

Part coming of age, part mystery, a great slice of life exploring what it is to go through high school with a good group of friends.

You'll find yourself nurturing some nostalgia for your high school days through this one.

5. Space Dandy (2014)

Cowboy Bebop meets FLCL. Not surprising since this comes from Bebop (and Champloo's) director, Shinichiro Watanabe.

In true Watanabe form, this comes with a bitchin' soundtrack. As for the plot? There are no words. Just watch!

6. Psycho-Pass (2012)

This is just an amazing cyber-punk/crime thriller series. Makes you recall the olden days of Ghost in the Shell, if you're that old!

7. Death Parade (2014)

What would you do if you had to play for your chance to end up in Heaven or Hell?

it's an episodic series that likes riffing on themes of human nature when put under duress.

8. Noragami (2013)

Mysterious god runs into average high school girl and she in turn becomes embroiled in his world. 

It's world building and character development are top-notch. Add that on top of an amazing soundtrack.

9. Shirobako (2014)

An anime about...making anime? If learning about the anime industry isn't enough to get you back into the swing of things, the lovable characters just might!

10. Gundam Build Fighters (2013)

This is a pretty transparent money grab by Sunrise, as they try to sell new Gunpla sets.

But it's a pretty freaking amazing one. Mecha fans, keep an extra pair of boxers handy for this one!
